A hand-held metal detector is a device used during a search, with the help of which it is possible to determine the presence of hidden metal objects on the person being searched. A metal detector is used to search for metal objects hidden under clothing or in luggage.

Hand-held metal detectors are usually used in two cases: to localize an object detected using a stationary metal detector, and in situations when an inspection is necessary, but the use of a stationary metal detector is impossible for a number of reasons.

Operating principle

The operating principle of a hand-held metal detector is based on the intersection of two electromagnetic fields: the one created by the device and the one emitted by the metal object under the influence of another electromagnetic field. Changes in the electromagnetic field are recorded by the electronic circuits of the device and converted into alarm signals.
